One young surfer girl, Ryder Board, was the first person to see
Godzilla approaching the shore as she was paddling in. She heard
several thunderous "groinks" and turned to see his behemoth body
wading through the water. As Godzilla got closer, he let out a few
more deafening groinks and started waving his stubby arms around, as
if to chase Miss Board off the beach. Our surfer girl obliged and
beat a hasty retreat before he got too close. Other were not so
lucky.
A group of surfers down the beach
toward the pier felt the sand shift under their feet as Godzilla
approached. At first, they did not know what was happening. Then,
they saw Godzilla striding quickly toward them, "ranting and
raving". Said another surfer, "I think he was trying to chase us
away". They were nearly trampled before dodging Godzilla. One
surfer lost his board as they raced off the beach.
A couple of joggers gave a
similar, terrifying account. They thought Godzilla was throwing a
fit, as he stood in the surf with his arms raised, blasting them
with his hot breath with each groinky bellow. The joggers sprinted
away, fearing that Godzilla might flame them with fire from his
mouth. Oddly, however, onlookers on the pier observed Godzilla chase
even a seagull away. It was as if Godzilla thought he owned the
whole beach and all creatures on it were trespassers.
The beach patrol was called
multiple times. Unfortunately, they showed up a little too late to
contact witnesses or to verify the reporting of Godzilla's strange
behavior. The beach officers were upset by the "mischievous, prank calls". Again,
no reports were filed.
What do we make of Godzilla's moody
antics in Cayucos? So far, Godzilla has not wandered inland more
than a few hundred feet. Will Godzilla keep his distance from urban
life? Only Godzilla knows! And where in the world will
Godzilla show up next?
